(Miss) USA!, USA!...Rima Fakih?

The excitement (if you can call it that) over the Donald Trump sponsored Miss USA pageant has died down since the days of Tara Connor. However, this year's pageant was plagued with racy photos shot by the Miss Universe organization themselves (so not big deal right?)! Sort of. It did make me more inclined to tune in.

Now that some of the better Sunday night shows have ended I was forced to watch the pageant (well not forced but there was nothing else on!). What a bore! I only tuned in for the aesthetics, oh, and the lousy answers to those tricky questions. One of the contestants (I forget who now because I have a short attention span) had to respond to the flak created by the scandalous photos...her answer was banal-'I think they're beautiful.'

The only reason NBC broadcasts it is because they have a working relationship with The Donald-who by the way, put together quite the panel of judges. They had Mrs. Trump (aka Malania Trump), Johnny Weir, Tara Connor (do something bad and you get to be a judge), Carmelo Anthony, Oscar Nunez (from The Office), Paula Deen and Suze Yalof Schwartz and Paul Ruffin (no clue who those last two are).

I'm pretty sure I dodge the talent portion due to my late start but the rest of the show contained a lot of random posing and a wicked cheesy choreographed dance-ish thing to Trace Adkins (poor guy).

The hosts were even more boring than the contestants. Trump hooked Celebrity Apprentice contestant Curtis Stone with the gig and Today Show fourth stringer (and former NBC30 anchor) Natalie Morales awkwardly recited cheesy lines from the teleprompter to help move the show along.

So after all the hard work the winner is.... Arab American, Rima Fakih, who claimed she had to sell her car (American made-she added) in order to compete in the pageant.

I'm going to put it out there and say she was the last person I thought would win. She seemed to be ill-prepared for the should health insurance cover birth control question. That didn't seem to effect her score (aahmmm rigged).

Articles are circulating today acknowledging Fakih as the first Arab American to win the pageant and using the publicity to attack immigration laws and controversy plaguing the country recently. Please, she just wants the fame and fortune associated with being Miss USA (if any) and the chance to compete in Miss Universe (good luck [sarcasm]).
