Sex and the City 2...too much

As a loyal SATC fan I felt it necessary to see the sequel to the first movie. Believe me it was not because I wanted to. The first movie should have been the only movie because it left us through and through fans with a sense of closure for each of the four characters. Bottom line the sequel was an obvious money maker. And I predict it will be number one this Memorial Day weekend.

In a word, the sequel was 'eh.' I don't even have much to say about it.

The first hour played out like one of the episodes. The theme being 'The Terrible Twos' has Carrie struggling to keep the sparkle in her two year, childless, marriage to big; Miranda is dealing with a sexist boss; Charlotte is overwhelmed with motherhood despite a full time nanny and Samantha is still dealing with menopause.

Also, in the first hour our favorite gay sidekicks Anthony and Stanford tie the knot in an elaborate ceremony complete with swans, a Dior tux, a show choir and Liza Minnelli singing 'Single Ladies' (yes, its a show stopper). I'm so happy for those two. And, don't tell me you didn't see that coming. Carrie even dons a tux to serve as Stanny's best man.

The second hour plus is a total fail. Its campy and contrived. The ladies, in need of a 'rich' vacation, head off to Abu Dhabi for an all expenses paid trip courtesy of the the Sheikh who produced Smith's latest masterpiece. Madness ensues. There's camels, butlers, karoke, shopping and an Aiden.

Its almost as if the Middle East sequence is a dream or a mirage of some sorts. Carrie is off her rocker.

I'll spare you from the spoiler alerts because if you are a true fan you are going to see it too.

Let's just say there is one thing Michael Patrick King does well with these characters, he always manages to bring them full circle.
